Working with internal IT: Agree responsibilities before a project starts

Respect existing ownership

Your IT team stays in control; we provide support where it makes sense. This form of collaboration, described on our website, depends on clear tasks and decision routes. An internal team understands many operational relationships, while additional support may help with infrastructure, migration, backup or security questions. Before a project begins, clarify which tasks should actually be supplemented. A broad description such as assistance is not enough to establish a dependable division of work between everyone involved.

Separate decisions from implementation

For the specific project, identify who supplies requirements, who approves changes and who carries them out technically. One person does not need to fill every role. What matters is that questions reach the right contact and that cover is known when someone is unavailable. Also record which access is required and how it will be provided in a controlled way. Clear roles should make collaboration easier rather than create unnecessary handovers between people who could resolve a question together.

Connect project work with daily operations

Technical changes rarely happen in an empty environment. Existing applications, maintenance windows and other projects need consideration. Discuss potential effects and the intended fallback route beforehand. Agree how success will be checked and how an unexpected result will be reported. Internal IT should receive documentation that makes subsequent operation understandable. That includes the relevant decisions and operational information, rather than only a list of installed components or product names without an explanation of how they fit together.

Treat handover as a separate task

At completion, check together whether the agreed functions and documents are present. Identify outstanding work and assign it to a responsible person. Also clarify what support is intended after the project and which tasks return fully to the internal team. This article explains our published collaboration model; it makes no general commitment about scope, availability or response times. Those matters are agreed for the individual engagement. The purpose is to supplement existing IT while keeping responsibility and knowledge clearly established within the organisation.
